Western Alliance for Assessment of International Medical Graduates

This initiative was designed to enhance the capacity of regulatory bodies and medical faculties in western and northern Canada to assess “practice ready” international medical graduates (IMG) for licensure. The project specifically developed assessment tools for Family Practice and Surgery, otained the tools acceptance by all key stakeholders, and tested them by processing and assessing a minimum of 25 candidates.  The implications of this project were considerable in that the "tools" developed have the capacity to increase the number of licensed physicians that could be allowed into the medical workforce, while singificantly reducing the costs and time involved in the current process.
